Kiah is 18

Kiah's birthday week has come and gone, like the past 18 years, way to fast. As is usual it fell during spring break, allowing us to take a trip to the mountains (a Kiah favorite!) around Taos. Hiking, rummaging through thrift stores and wandering around amongst art & architecture made for a fun time for all.

Dolphins!

My friend Dawn turned 50 and wanted a birthday trip.  So we (with my sister Trisha and Sis-in-law Steff) joinned her in New Bern, NC for the festivities.  During a beach walk near Ft. Macon, we spent an hour watching dolphin feeding on the beach - Way Cool.  More pix soon.

Night Sky

30 second exposure looking southwest at 9 o,clock pm local time.Jupiter is at lower right with Venus just above. The Pleiades above and left. Orion is at left-center and , Sirius in the constellation Canis Major on the far left.Along with Procyon and Betelgeuse forming the "Winter Triangle".
It's amazing how many stars are visible to the camera in long exposure that are not visible to the naked eye.

Don't Get Excited

It's only tomatoes.
Ready to be transplanted. It's only March but the garden is beckoning. Don't want to jump the gun but feel compelled to get some of these planted.

Advanced Screening

After substantial effort trying to get my 8mm film Powder House screened, I woke up to the news that The Hedreen Gallery at Seattle University is going to project it as part of an Authors Publishers and Readers of Independent Literature event. Author Matthew Simmons will be reading from his new book Jell-O Horse. Since the film is about gelatin, the event planners decided to pair us up. He'll give a reading, the gallery will show the film, and rumor has it there will be Jell-O shots. I don't have an official date or time yet, and I'm not even sure I'll be able to make it, but I thought it was news worth passing along. Please enjoy the advanced screening!

Track Season

Ivy's winning jump - 4'4"
Ivy and Alaina decided to go out for track this year and participated in their first track meet yesterday in Skiatook.  Very exciting and, to a track novice, very confusing.  Training has been very intense and Alaina has been suffering shin splints; Ivy might be getting them too.

Coach Castle helps Alaina

Both girls competed in High Jump and the 3200 m Relay.  The relay team was 7th place; Ivy was 1st place with a jump of 4 ft 4 in and Alaina placed 4th with a jump of 4 ft 2 in.  I managed to watch the relay race and the last 2 rounds of High Jump.

Later, Ivy ran in the 1600 m and 800 m races placing 6th and 11th respectively.  Alaina was scratched from the 400 m race because of her leg pain but was in the 1600 m Relay - the Zebras placed 4th.

The track season is short and intense with 7 meets in 8 weeks (if they make the conference meet on April 26).  Go Zebras!
