Water Spout

Of all the years I lived in Oklahoma, I never got to see a tornado. I even used to go out looking for them in college. Living here in Key West, you see baby tornado's on a weekly basis. Here is a nice one I saw from the dive boat a couple of days ago...

28th Birthday - Melinda and Kaitlynne Visit Key West

Bugs and All

The weekend was perfect for a weenie roast and campout. Rylko boys and the twins spotted a UFO from their tent and were concerned about alien abduction. Strange spacemen made contact with the annual cicadae army. Ahh, summer fun!

Vacation pix are on the YaYa blog at: http://www.yayariders.blogspot.com/

Colorado calls

I think Billy & co. must have been in the Rocky Mountains at the same time as us. We visited family near Conifer and a friend in Carbondale, near Aspen. I'm still pining for the pines and the aspens... the wildflowers... and the ice cold streams... the laid back outdoorsy lifestyle...

Oh, and the VW bus that we borrowed for camping. It is allegedly for sale for 2 grand and I totally fell in love with it. You can sleep! Anywhere! Just pull over and ... as they say, "wherever you go, there you are..." now I understand "there you are" refers to the Wal-Mart parking lot. So what if I can't drive a stick?

Oh, I love Colorado!

Number Twoo

Paul tells me I've built an 8 string (only have four on it now) Bass Mandolin. He played it prior to my installing fret bars and it sounded good.

Summer Project

Paul & I have been building stringed instruments. Here's his the first one. Rough around the edges and heavy in your hands it plays & sounds something like a guitar.
Next up: a mandolin (or a reasonable facsimile thereof)

Manatees and Dolphins - woo hoo

Florida is beautiful and we have checked beaches on west and east coasts. Totday we visited the Canaveral National Seashore/Merritt Island and picniced with woodpeckers, herons, and dolphins, played on the beautiful beach, and saw manatee along a riverbank. Lovely and yesterday we watched the space shuttle take off from a beach just south of Cape Canaveral - Wow Wee! The rumble shook the sand.

We traveled to the Pikes Peak region in Colorado for a brief respite from the heat. Matt, a friend of both Paul & Kiah came along and a good time was had by all.

FLA

We arrived in Orlando this afternoon and had lots of fun already. Jim picked us up from the airport and we stopped at Lone Cabbage Fishcamp for a late lunch of deep fried gator, shrimp, chicken and fries. Then, out on the dock, got a glimps of cousin gator before we headed east to the house. Evening found us checking out the surf and shells at the nearest beach and the girls manged to get in the pool a couple of times already. Don't worry, we are taking lots of Pictures!

Summer Time

Baseball teams at the WOR got very sweaty but that's the way it is in the summertime. Alex visited in anticipation of hay hauling but weather and grass conspired and hay is postponed until next week.
The girls and I head to FLA tomorrow morning to visit Trisha and the rest of the Ray-side FLA gang. I hear sand and surf calling our names.

Fabulous 4th

Family gathered in Nowata to burn money....... oh, I mean set off fireworks... hehe... The world did not end when John didn't buy fire works and I did. Who knew?

Food - Rylko's brought several coleslaws, wild O's brought BBQ and tabouli, Melinda brought fried chicken, Brenda brought cupcakes, Jack made cuc salad, Steff brought pie, and Granddad made stuffed peppers and corn-on-the-cob and chips and fruit were plentiful. Yum-O.
After a rainy start to Sat, it was pretty warm most of the afternoon but fireworks were deployed before the weather could stop it.

The croquet course was hilly with some ruff around the pond.
The horse shoe pit was open for buisness but the real action was on the northern frontier where Rylko boys and Orban girls held the tank war battles. More details regarding these actions are classified.
Who is that behind those foster grants?
Summer is here but the cool front that came through reminds us that fall is coming.
