Happy Birthday Mother

Mother would have been 80 years old today. I still miss her every day, but sure glad I got to know her in the time we had. Grateful that my kids have such wonderful memories of her, too.

Love you, Mother
Your first baby,
Jetta

As years pass and life unfolds, new concerns and memories push out the old. But some are too ingrained to give way. Much of what I recall of Mother is more about her generous nature and patient being, than specific events. Always glad to see me, ready with a hug and a smile, she rarely uttered a complaint or criticism of my actions. Around her, I felt confident and loved. Though I have to pause now, after all these years to recount specific moments with my Mother, among those that warm my heart most are blustery winter evenings, returning from my paper route, to a hot cup (or two or three!) of sweet tea or coco she made sure was ready upon my arrival. She would take a moment to sit with me and ask about my experiences, dogs she knew I fretted over or whether my feet were keeping warm enough. It lasted less than five minutes, but it left me feeling special and appreciated.
I love and miss you Mother
Your bright sensitive boy,
Billy
