You Say Orben, I Say Orban

During Alex Gramblin's graduation ceremony last week, a quote was attributed to Robert Orben. I had come across this anomaly before but this is the first time googling. Click title for interesting ( by my standards ) info.

Spanish Project

With the end of the school year comes
projects. Spanish class students had the choice of
making a pinata or a vejigante.
The material to be used was limited to poster
board, flour, water, newspaper, tape and paint.
As you see Amy chose the vejigante.

District and on to STATE!

After the mighty preparations - the 4-H NE District Horseshow has come and gone. Kale came home to work the show while the girls competed in it. Kathy B added length to their chaps and created new western show shirts for them and I helped glue the rhinestones!

Ivy showed Splash in Halter and Showmanship (qualifying in Halter) and Alaina showed Sunny in H and S and qualified in Showmanship. Then Ivy switched to Pico and both girls rode in English Hunter Under Saddle, English Hunt Seat Equitation and Ivy rode Pico in the jumping class; they placed in all these classes. Then in Western, both girls rode in Western Pleasure and Western Horsemanship and Alaina rode in Trail. Both girls placed in WH and Alaina placed in WP. Woo Hoo.

So, we are off to the state show in Shawnee in June - the girls had a fun time today and can hardly wait until the next show!

Show Girls

Ivy and Alaina are excited about the District Horse Show scheduled for this Sat. at the Claremore Expo. Friend, Kathy B. made new show shirts and added 6 inches of length to the outgrown chaps and I helped cut fabric and fringes and glued some rhinstones after the girls decided where to put them. So now all we need to do is: organize the trailer, make sure we have tack (not enough time to clean tack), trim manes, clip bridle path and whiskers and fetlocks, wash, braid/band, remember snacks, charge camera batteries,........... Want to help?

We will be at expo most of the day on Sat. so come on down if you want to help wait between classes and watch a little riding in between. The girls have to qualify to go to the state show in June and then hope to quailfy for regionals in Little Rock this year - about as close as it will be for another decade. I will sleep in Sunday!

reckon the rain will hurt the rhubarb?

Tomatoes, peppers and cucumbers in the back garden all seem to be enjoying the wet conditions, but corn, cantaloupes and watermelons planted over a week ago have not yet emerged. Figure I may have to replant, though I'll probably give it another day or two. The extra water doesn't seem to be bothering the trees and flowers and if it doesn't keep this up forever we should have a good hay year.

Jaden's Laugh

Jaden loves this video of a cat jumping in and out of a box.
He laughs like this every time he sees it.
The title links to the cat video, but it's nowhere as funny without the laugh track.
