380 Revolutions

Step back and think about your year in the rear view mirror. In many ways it was much like any other year.  Seasons come and go, day to day occurrences much like the day before and the day after. Throw it all in a blender and it seems pretty bland.
Take each day separately, however, and you've got a different story. Each one of us go through the daily drudgery of routine but we each also have moments that make life good: New lives to celebrate, travels made, passages of life that may be best described as wisdom gained or lessons learned.
Welcome to you whom have just embarked and congratulations to you that keep keepin' on!

15 Years of Twins

You know everyone needs twins.  and you can get them too if you get pregnant and turn 40 during an el nino year.

Kale came home to visit, eat cake and celebrate birthdays on the 16th and 17th.  The girls have been having a good birthday and only have one more day of school this semester since they will get Thursday and Friday off for good behavior, good attendance, and good grades.  Woo HOO!

Happy Happy Happy Birthday to Steve and Trisha!

Ivy gave Steve a new game called Tenzies for his birthday and once Kale got home for a visit, the kids and Steve played a rousing game.  Very loud and apparently fun.  Perhaps even provides cardio exercise.  Steve will be able to use the heat pack Alaina gave him to relax those tense shoulder muscles.

Donna delivered one of her famous apple pies yesterday, so Steve didn't get candles on a cake - but the PIE is heavenly.  mmmm

Perhaps the girls will get a cake tomorrow?

...and Continues to Turn

Jeff Beck's   "Trouble In Mind",

Trouble in mind, I'm blue
But I won't be blue always
'Cause the sun's gonna shine
My back door someday

Trouble in mind, it's true
I almost lost my mind
Life ain't worth living, baby
Sometimes I feel like dying

Gonna lay my head
On some lonesome railroad line
Let that 2:09 train
Ease my worried mind

Nightwatch

The grass is green, the humidity high; seems like it's been raining since the 4th of July. Haven't had a good clear night in quite a while but maybe the weather is about to break. Hopefully we'll have some clear skies this week as the annual Perseid meteor shower is "supposed" to be a good one! This coming weekend will be peek viewing time. Several other astronomical events will occur this week so I'm hoping for clear skies and good viewing. Here's a link to Sky and Telescope:http://www.skyandtelescope.com/

Bumper Crop

When it got hot and dry a couple weeks ago I figured our garden was toast. We watered a little but really couldn't keep up. With the recent rains and cooler temps the tomatoes and cucumbers have made a remarkable comeback.
   Cucumber salad anyone?!

More of the Same...Not Quite!

Another clear view sky and great sky to view.Had to opt for a wider angle lens for this shot, as the moon is tracking to the SE.
In a few days Mercury and Venus will close in on each other and pass in the night, then Mercury fades from sight.

SkyWatch

As our Earth spins on it's axis and revolves around the sun our view of the constellations and our sister planets changes. Today as the first sliver of our moon sets in the west it is joined by Venus (lower right) and Mercury (center); above are the bright stars Pollux (left) and Castor (right), the "heads" of the twins in the constellation of Gemini.
Same view tomorrow eve except the Moon will be a few degrees higher in the sky and Mercury will creep closer to Venus and the horizon.

Happy Happy Happy - Snake Dynasty in Claremore

Alaina says snake knots on your ankle are hard to remove and Ivy says snake bites tickle.  My friend Mallory says that to prevent snake bites, do not handle snakes.  Good advice.
